Most instructors' booking system is a text thread.
"Are you free Thursday?" — then a scroll back to check, a reply, a mental note, and the no-show because nobody was reminded. It works right up until you have twenty students, at which point the admin quietly becomes a second job and the double-booking becomes inevitable.

Availability is a set of rules, not a calendar you babysit.
You describe how you like to work once. Every slot ever offered to a student has already passed every one of these.
Working hours
Per weekday, so a short Friday and a long Saturday are just how it is. Students pick any start on a grid, or only whole blocks that stop your day fragmenting into unusable gaps.
Buffers between lessons
The gap you need to write up, drive across town and drink something. Subtracted from availability automatically, so back-to-back bookings can't happen by accident.
Minimum notice
How close to the hour someone can still book. Set it to a day and tomorrow-morning surprises stop existing.
Booking horizon
How far into the future the calendar opens. Keeps students from claiming a Tuesday in November before you know what November looks like.

Reminders, unasked
Confirmation, cancellation and pre-lesson reminders reach the student and the guardian on file — by push and by email, so it works whether or not they installed the app.
Reschedules that clean up after themselves
Move a lesson from either side and the reminder re-arms, the old slot reopens, the new one locks. Nothing fires for a lesson that isn't happening.
Cancellation fees, stated up front
Set a late-cancellation or no-show fee and your notice window. The student sees it before they confirm, and a charged fee counts as real income in your earnings.
Paid before or after — your call
Send a card link for a lesson or a package, or keep taking cash at the curb. Either way the lesson's paid status and your outstanding balance update themselves.

Questions
Common questions about online lesson booking.
Do my students need to download an app?
No. The student and parent portal opens in any browser. They can add it to their home screen if they want it to feel like an app, but nothing goes through an app store.
Can two students grab the same slot at once?
No. An instant booking claims the slot with a server-side lock before the lesson is created, so a simultaneous attempt from another phone loses the race and is offered the next open time instead.
What if I'm out of signal when someone books?
The booking is written on the server, so it's waiting for you when you reconnect. Your own side of the app — the schedule, the checklist, lesson notes — keeps working offline and syncs when you're back.
Can I still book a lesson for a student myself?
Always. Self-serve booking is an option you switch on for students, not a replacement for you adding a lesson in three taps.
Does taking a booking start the paperwork?
Yes — that's the point of booking living in the same app. The lesson carries its student, time, duration and fee from the moment it's booked, so the record BC asks you to keep is already half-written. See compliance.
